John Butler is playing an exclusive live performance on YouTube tonight (May 21) to celebrate World Meditation Day.
Inviting fans to “tune into their first visual and aural experience” of his forthcoming album Running River, Butler will be playing three of the album’s songs live on his YouTube channel. The live performance tonight will take place at 8:50pm AEST.
“I made this album to be a bit of a balm and some kind of soothing in these tumultuous and highly quick and frenetic times,” he said of the new record.

He said he hopes people will use the performance as a time to meditate or breathe.
After his performance, Butler will be hosting an afterparty for YouTube Premium subscribers where he’ll reveal 20 minutes of exclusive content about Running River, as well as future plans.
Watturu Chant, the second single from the new album, also released today.
Running River drops this Friday (May 24). Butler previously said of his inspiration behind the album: “I feel that life in an age of post-truth, social media and relentless data inundation, environmental, social and political strain, and – if I was not too bold to say global society collectively, at least in the west – is a bit shattered in the nervous system department.”
