Frank Yamma is without a doubt one of Australia’s most significant Indigenous songwriters. His standing ovation by the notoriously tough crowd world music industry elite at WOMEX, in Spain, last Saturday, coinciding with the recent release of his critically acclaimed new album Uncle, show the continuity of a musician that is hitting his peak with grace and conviction.
To celebrate new single Everybody’s Talking — a Pitjantjatjara-language song about a mob sitting down on country and talking about everything from politics to humbugging and family — Yamma is releasing a brand new video. Shot in downtown Newtown by Richard McGrath and Murray Lui, starring a swag of local actors and community, the upbeat track and clip will surely make your heart sing in whatever language you speak.
Frank Yamma is launching Uncle in Melbourne at Shebeen (Saturday, November 15, in conjunction with AWME) and in Sydney at Newtown Social Club (Thursday, December 11). He also performs regional launches at Belgrave’s Sooki Lounge (November 13); Castlemaine’s The Royal (November 14); Wauchope Arts (November 29); plus a special public house concert in Bellingen (November 30).
