"We feel pure joy and happiness."
The sound of sweeping chimes fills the full house as Vallis Alps begin with their brand new single East. The song was only just released yesterday and is another little taste of the new material this duo have been cooking up. The upbeat and anthemic track ignites a buzz in the room as their atmospheric sound, featuring stuttering beats and radiating synth, spreads far and wide. Oh! is up next and seamlessly transitions into a re-work of their remix of the Troye Sivan and Broods collaboration Ease, to which they now add some fresh lyrics and create their own twist on the song.
"This is the first night of the Australian leg of our tour and we're already getting emotional," says Parissa Tosif as she inhales deeply before letting forth those ethereal vocals. "Melbourne is the city that streams our music the most and is always the first to sell out our shows. We can't believe we're playing another three [shows] here this week!" she exclaims.
Tonight is all about sharing lots of new music, which will be on their second EP titled Fable. "It's coming out in about ten days," Tosif reveals. By the sound of this new material, including the EP's lead single Fading, this is something to be excited about. There's a noticeable difference in the tone of these songs compared to their debut EP that sees Vallis Alps exploring a different soundscape and delving further into those fluttering bursts of upbeat electronic pop. David Ansari is busy working away on the colourful layers of mesmerising live production, which combines beautifully with Tosif's luscious, breathy vocal tone. They've mastered effortless tempo shifts, from soothing verses to jolting choruses that automatically make you wanna dance.
Young is their set's pinnacle moment and also the noticeable crowd favourite. Despite the chatterboxes nearby who would rather hear the sound of their own voices, we manage to zone out and get completely lost in this atmospheric song, which is equally calming and lively. As Vallis Alps reach the end of their set, we feel pure joy and happiness.
