Dave & Central Cee Land A Third Week At #1 With 'Sprinter'

It's the halfway mark of the year this week, and Australia has still only logged five #1 songs for 2023, as the current top-seller Sprinter for Dave and Central Cee lands a third week at #1. 

Sprinter also holds for a third stay in England, Ireland and New Zealand, a second week in Switzerland, along with Top 5 berths in Denmark (#2), Norway (#3), Canada, Sweden and Austria (all #5).

The current #1 song also beats the previous two-week record for 'British Male Rap pairings' at #1 as Body for Russ Millions and Tion Wayne held for two weeks at the top from May 17th, 2021 (which is also the only other dual-UK-rap teaming to have hit the #1 spot here), while the longest run at the top for a pair of solo male artists is the 17 weeks racked up by The Kid LAROI and Justin Bieber with Stay (from July 19th, 2021). 

With it also being the last chart for June, it's also the halfway mark of 2023's charts; thus, let's compare it with last year.

In 2023 we've had only five #1 songs, four of them new for 2023: Kill Bill (1 week on Jan. 16th), followed by a twelve-week stay for Flowers by Miley Cyrus (from Jan. 23rd), while Morgan Wallen overtook that with Last Night (8 weeks from April 17th), while the current #1 started on June 12th, all of which are still within the Top 10. The fifth #1 for 2023 was 2022's Unholy by Sam Smith and Kim Petras (1 week on Jan. 9th), thus not a new #1 during this year.

In 2022 at the half-year mark, we'd had six #1 songs, albeit only two of those were new chart-topping songs: As It Was by Harry Styles (started April 11th, 2022) and First Class by Jack Harlow (2 weeks from April 18th, 2022), while the first four #1 songs of 2022 we all previous 2021 chart-toppers, Cold Heart, Stay, Heat Waves, and All I Want for Christmas is You, so 2023 has had more new #1 songs than at this time in 2022, just not as much variety in those that have landed in the #1 spot. 

Morgan Wallen remains in the top spot of The U.S.A. with Last Night (11 weeks), and the song continues its hold at #2 in Australia for a third week, plus his album regains the U.S. #1 spot (13th week) and holds at the top in Canada (14th week), while here One Thing at a Time holds at #6. Both Morgan Wallen and Luke Combs are back-to-back in two locations this week; their first sees Luke's cover of Fast Car idling at #3 for a second week, matching its new peak position in The U.S.A. this week (LW-4), while it's on peak-hold in Canada at #4, jumps again in New Zealand (20 to a new peak of #15) and slightly moves up in England (90 to #88). 

The fourth and final non-mover within the Top 10 this week is Miley Cyrus's Flowers at #4 for a fourth consecutive week, the song now having held for multiple weeks in each position it has occupied (#1x12, #2x3, #3x4 and #4x4). Swapping places at #5 and #6 are Daylight for David Kushner (up to #5) and Cupid by FIFTY FIFTY (down to #6), after which single places rise for Kill Bill by SZA (8 to #7), Die for You by The Weeknd and Ariana Grande (9 to #8) and Anti-Hero by Taylor Swift (11 to #9; WI10-now 28), with the most significant drop within the Top 10 being a three-place fall to #10 for PinkPantheress and Ice Spice with Boy's a Liar (pt.2). 

TOP 20: 

NEW PEAKS: Making a massive six-place jump to a new peak of #11 is the seven-week running #1 song in Canada, Calm Down for Rema and Selena Gomez, which previously peaked here at #12 on May 15th, with the song now logging it's 17th week within the Top 20 of its 42nd week within the Top 100. The second Top 20 peak is Padam Padam for Kylie Minogue which jumped up ten places to land at #19, becoming her first Top 20 Australian entry since Timebomb debuted and peaked at #12 in early June of 2012, while her new song is also up to a new peak in England (9 to #8) and Ireland (22 to #13). 

The only song leaving the Top 10 this week is All My Life (HP-9, WI10-3) for Lil' Durk and J. Cole, down three spots to #13, with the two stable entries within the Top 20 being Harry Styles with As It Was (#11) and I Ain't Worried by OneRepublic (#16). Miracle for Calvin Harris and Ellie Goulding, along with Creepin' for Metro Boomin', The Weeknd and 21 Savage are both up one spot each to #18 and #20, respectively, with Creepin' the highest placed Metro track this week of his five Top 50 entries. 

TOP 30: 

No more new peaks for this week, but two tracks making upward jumps are Heat Waves by Glass Animals, back up eight spots to #23 (similar to what it did on May 29th when it leapt 34 to #25), and as it's now been announced that Taylor Swift is coming down to Australia in February 2024, a September 2019 issued track Cruel Summer has this week leapt up twenty-three places to land at #29, the track originally entering and peaking at #22, while the song returned to the Top 100 on May 1st, with this leap for the track giving Cruel Summer it's third ever week within the Top 50 (WI100-now 13). 

Three movie songs drop down within the Top 30 this week, with Am I Dreaming by Metro Boomin' (from Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse) down two to #22, with Post Malone's Sunflowers wilting only one spot to #25 (from Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse) and thirdly Dance the Night by Dua Lipa (from Barbie) moves down four places to land at #27, with a new song from the soundtrack by Nicki Minaj and Ice Spice called Barbie World (with Aqua) issued on Friday. 

TOP 40: 

Ed Sheeran has two of the three on-hold tracks within this chart region this week, as both Eyes Closed and Shivers are on non-movers at #32 and #37, respectively, while the third goes to Lewis Capaldi and Someone You Loved at #40 (his only Top 50 entry this week). Two more soundtrack songs drop down this week in Popular (from The Idol) by The Weeknd (28 to #31) and Calling by Metro Boomin' (from Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse) falls seven places to #34. The second occurrence of Morgan Wallen and Luke Combs sitting back-to-back (like at #2 and #3) this week occurs for Morgan's You Proof (36 to #35) and Luke's almost-one-year-charted The Kind Of Love We Make (34 to #36; WI100-50). 

TOP 50: 

Elton John and Dua Lipa returned to the Top 50 last week with Cold Heart (PNAU Remix), which this week is back up to #42 (Elton and Britney's Hold Me Closer was played in the opening of the second season of And Just Like That this past weekend). Rises also occur for Mr Brightside by The Killers (now three full years charted, 156 weeks within the Top 100) and No Role Modelz by J. Cole, rising two spots apiece to #44 and #45. Back within the Top 50 are I'm Good (Blue) by David Guetta and Bebe Rexha (53 to #49) and Dreams by Fleetwood Mac (51 to #50). The last two Metro Boomin' tracks from the new Spider-Man animated movie to chart are Annihilate (33 to #43) and Self Love (41 to #46). 

NEW ENTRY:

* #30 - Attention by Doja Cat (Kemosabe/RCA) is the first new track from the American rapper's upcoming fourth studio album (no date or proper title known as yet, working title of Hellmouth), which is an ode to her-personal-self. This new entry now becomes Doja Cat's twenty-first Top 100 entry (17 as lead, four as guest) and 16th Top 50 placement, plus it's also her first Top 50 entry since she teamed with Post Malone on I Like You (A Happier Song) (HP-7, peaked June 13th, 2022, left the Top 100 on May 29th, 2023). The new song also debuted its first week in New Zealand (#16), England (#37), Ireland (#27) and at #10 in The Netherlands.
