Album Review: The Lulu Raes - LULU

There's a lot of excellent pop music out there at the moment, it's just that none of it is on commercial pop radio.

These days you need to peer well past the mainstream to find the good stuff, even with pop music. And if you do, you might find this little ripper.

This Sydney-based five-piece caress your listening gear with swooning, easy, breezy pop that is easily digestible without being saccharine, lowest-common-denominator crap, and that is certain to brighten your day if you're having a bad one. LULU contains 13 fabulous tracks, with nary a filler tune to be heard, which makes this a record of exceptional value. The Lulu Raes are obviously a highly inspired band with an overflow of great ideas and the vast majority of these songs work an absolute treat.

This is what pop radio should be playing, not the vacuous, plastic offal that they're playing right now. But that's not the world we live in in 2018, so keep seeking it out rather than waiting for it to come to you. Because is won't.
