Live Review: LDRU, Manila Killa

Tonight's crowd were collectively soaked due to the torment of steady rain while they stood in line with patience and disdainful mutters. Luckily for them, however, their efforts paid off as the US-based beatmaker Manila Killa set up the danceable vibe with some well received hard hitters from his DJ rig. His set was complemented by the resident DJs providing the crowd with some classics such as Fatman Scoop's Be Faithful and House Of Pain's Jump Around.

LDRU's set was pumped with all of the essentials of a top-notch performance and a huge taste of personality. From starting off his set with the theme of Victoria Bitter, to the ever-Aussie yiews and cheers to hype the crowd, the Sydney-based producer showcased how much of a ripper bloke he is.

His 50-minute show was a concoction of Jack U-styled trap and future-bass bangers alongside a string of passionate vocalists, who performed LDRU's singles extremely well considering the venue's cement den forced the sound guy to decimate the volume and quality of their vocals to eliminate feedback. There was even a cheeky drop of Red Hot Chili Peppers' track Can't Stop, proving to the bursting crowd that not all tunes have to have an electronic flair to be extremely danceable.

Despite the ever-growing number of post-Flume Australian beats producers rising from the east coast faster than triple j airwaves can take them, LDRU has done a pretty good job of establishing himself as a pick of the litter both as an incredible producer and a live act who knows what the crowd wants.
