"A raw and thought-provoking stroke of genius."
Laura Mvula's second album The Dreaming Room is a beautiful and progressive follow-up that sees the singer explore new sounds and concepts, while retaining that soulful core so central to her musical identity.
Mvula is known for her use of layering dense vocal harmonies and this album has those in spades. From the upbeat yet gritty instrumentation of Overcome to the seemingly gospel-inspired Show Me Love, the luscious arrangements and intricate vocals are absolutely mesmerising. On Nan her grandmother can be heard sending prayers down the phone, clearly Mvula payed attention to these affirmations because she's left us with a raw and thought-provoking stroke of genius.
