Last night (30 June), Jessica Mauboy premiered her song for the Australian Olympics team, Higher, ahead of its release next Thursday (11 July).
Debuted at the Prime Minister’s Olympic and Paralympic dinner in Melbourne, Higher is available to pre-order/pre-save here via Warner Music Australia.
Mauboy’s Olympics anthem was written by Australian songwriters Shannon Busch (better known as soul singer WILSN) and Stephen Mowat and is said to have immediately resonated with the Australian Olympic Committee for its powerful lyrics.
In a press release, Mauboy said of recording the song for the Australian Olympic team, “It’s an absolute honour to lend my voice in support of our incredible Aussie athletes. Higher captures the spirit and energy of our amazing team, and I know I speak for all Aussies when I say we are thrilled to celebrate their dedication, passion, and the pride they bring to us all.”
Mauboy will next perform Higher at the Australian Olympic Committee's Flag Bearer Ceremony at the French Mint (Accueil Monnaie de Paris) on Wednesday, 24 July, and will perform it once again at the homecoming ceremony for the Australian Olympic athletes in Sydney on Wednesday, 14 August, which will be broadcast live on Channel Nine.
Chair of the Australian Olympic Committee and four-time Olympian Cate Campbell said of Higher, “Lyrically, it speaks to the reality of an Olympian’s path to the Games, and melodically, it’s a killer track.
