"KLP is a major heavyweight in the movement of powerful women in Australia's music scene."
KLP is absolutely everywhere right now. From dishing out weekly mixes on triple j's House Party program, to remixing the Play School theme song, and teaming up with acts such as REMI and What So Not, it feels like the prolific artist never takes a break — especially given the fact she brought her live act to Adelaide on a national tour less than a year ago. This time around, she's brought Aussie producer and hip hop lover Tigerilla to Adelaide's incredible weekly showcase of the best current music, Cats at Rocket Bar.
Opening the night was a little known electronic pop duo, Kimonono, whose sounds are reminiscent of a lush Purity Ring fused with some mesmerising pop hooks. Hidden in the darkness in front of an absorbing array of visuals, lead singer Caitlin Feagan and producer Daniel Linke wooed the crowd with their beautiful melodies and powerful instrumentation, proving their capacity to set up the night's vibes in all the right ways.
The crowds were pouring into the venue soon after Tigerilla took to the stage, where the producer managed to seize a pretty large handful of the night's newcomers. It was easy to see how Tigerilla squeezed to the top of the Melbourne production scene with an arsenal of crisp tunes and infectious performance style — the 40-minute set was all killer, no filler.
With the crowd divided between the chill rooftop bar, and the main room, KLP hopped up on stage to a roomy crowd. This didn't last long, however, as when upstairs punters caught wind of an addictive bass line or KLP's silky smooth vocals, they dashed downstairs to get in on the action. KLP was fantastic to watch, providing the loving crowd with an hour of powerful tracks, insights into her career and how she started in the industry, and some awe-inspiring audience integration. Major hits such as Recover, her collaboration with REMI; and her latest single Air were major favourites on the dancefloor throughout her show.
