It’s as if the brief here was to make as little impression as possible.
A colourless pop release with mild flavours of big-band instrumentation, Where’s Ben espouses a brassy optimism that’s ultimately thin and feels insipid.
Electric guitar is an afterthought, barely registering among these twee song compositions. Self-proclaimed champions of cheerful music revivalism, Jimmy & The Mirrors don’t offer the dynamism to back this up. Ironically, Hailstorm proves their best track thanks to its emotive, subdued melody, although it falls prey to a withdrawn banality. Not unpleasant or irritating (but not, really, anything) – it’s as if the brief here was to make as little impression as possible.
