"Hailmary are their own men now."
Hailmary are in raging form on their latest EP Evolve Dissolve – they have indeed evolved, sounding as assured and world class as they ever have.
Featuring five tracks that expertly balance darkness and light – and more frequently abide in the shadows between the two – Evolve Dissolve finds singer Kevin Curran in amazing voice, whilst his and new boy Paul Cush’s guitars weave together seamlessly over a propulsive rhythm section (drummer Vas Shevtsov and bassist Mick Quee). There are still shades of their early Alice In Chains influences, notably on Equilibrium, but Hailmary are their own men now, with Longest Line especially a modern rock song that any self-respecting rock radio programmer should have already added. With a huge hook, and electric and acoustic guitars dancing together, this is one of the songs of the year.
