"There are a few good songs, but you almost need a radar detector to find them."
New York resident Darwin Smith returns with another album of kooky tunes to accompany some equally ridiculous and quirky music videos.
His third release since his beatific debut album, Double Down sees the songwriter taking a Ridley Scott approach to writing. Like the director's successive Alien sequels, this album doesn't so much change the formula as tweak small elements of it. There's a new batch of hyper-relatable and offbeat metaphors to go with his shiny riffs, ranging from cringeworthy to occasionally touching. There are a few good songs, but you almost need a radar detector to find them.
