Aussie rockers Violent Soho and record label I Oh You have teamed up to release the tenth-anniversary edition of the band’s classic album, Hungry Ghost, and with it, Violent Soho have reflected on the milestone.
“Hungry Ghost is 10! Hell Fuck Yeah!! 10 years ago, when we recorded Hungry Ghost, we had no expectations; we just wanted to record music on our own terms - at home in Brisbane, in a shed with the producer who worked with local punk bands,” the band wrote in a candid statement. “We had no idea the record would go on to change our lives.
“We did some digging and found some live tracks plus some demos from that period that helped shape the record - we hope everyone enjoys looking back as much we have. Thanks everyone who’s supported the band and record over the past 10 years - we’re continually grateful and humbled by the experience!”
Standard and deluxe pressings will be available to pre-order next Wednesday, 20 September, from 9 am AEST to celebrate the album's tenth anniversary. The records will ship on Friday, 15 December. You can pre-order your copy here.
Even the standard edition is impressive – Violent Soho are releasing 180-gram vinyl in blood red with black splatter and 50/50 orange/red with black splatter, arriving with a limited-edition album cover and the original tracklisting.
Meanwhile, on the deluxe edition, Hungry Ghost will arrive with a 180g double LP with yellow with orange/red splatter, encased in a gatefold full of images from the era.

The deluxe edition comes with the original tracklist as well as live bonus tracks from two Violent Soho shows: at the Mansfield Tavern and Splendour In The Grass in 2016. Deep cuts are also mentioned in the tracklist – you can view the songs on the standard and deluxe editions of Hungry Ghost below.
Upon the album’s release in September 2013, The Music’s Steve Bell remarked in an album review, “A band once seen by some as a one-trick pony is now undeniably the complete package. World-class.”
