It’s a great long weekend for guitar lovers, as legendary players Steve Vai and Joe Satriani have released their first-ever collaborative track.
The Sea Of Emotion Pt. 1 arrives as Vai and Satriani embark on their Satch Vai US tour, a run that commemorates the duo’s 50+ year friendship. The tour is set to find them making “guitar conversations” as they “shred their way across the US”.

To celebrate the tour, Vai and Satriani have dropped The Sea Of Emotion Pt 1, a track that, according to Satriani, might appear on a forthcoming album.
“When Steve and I decided the time had finally come for us to collaborate on an album, I immediately thought of our humble beginnings, where we came from, and our teenage rock ’n’ roll hopes and dreams,” Satriani commented in a statement, per Consequence Of Sound.
Vai added, “This song, and its additional two parts, are inspired by a giant field outside the high school of the town Joe and I grew up in.

“As young teenagers, we would sit overlooking this magnificent field and wax on generously for hours about the meaning of life and many other deep, rich discussions, so we deemed this field, The Sea Of Emotion. 50 years later, it has been memorialised in melody and groove.”
Vai was Satriani’s former student, but their pair have grown into longtime friends and share the G3 tour.
Vai brought his Involiate tour to Australia last November. “Australian people are the nicest people in the world,” Vai told The Music’s Mark Hebblewhite in an interview ahead of the tour.
“I really love how accommodating people are in Australia and how receptive and supportive the fans are. Oh, I also arrange it so I can spend a day on Rottnest Island at the end of every tour – which is one of my favourite things to do.”
