Violent Soho Announce Indefinite Hiatus: ‘Incredible & Life-defining’

Aussie favourites Violent Soho have announced they’ll be taking an indefinite hiatus.

The news arrives alongside fresh single Kamikaze and one final show before the break, a gig at Fortitude Music Hall on September 10.

“After nearly 20 years in Violent Soho we've experienced so much as a band - It's been incredible and life-defining,” the band said in a statement today.

“We feel so grateful to have experienced the journey and to all the people that believed in our music and showed us so much support.

“However, as individuals we've found ourselves in different places over the last few years and so we've decided it’s time to take a break and lay low for a bit.

“This isn’t the end of the band, but we are looking forward to giving ourselves some space, focusing on our families, and giving back to the community which fostered and carried us.   

“We’ve just released a new track called Kamikaze, it’s out everywhere now.”

The band’s hiatus announcement arrives just a week out from their slot on Splendour In The Grass, where they’ll hit the stage alongside the likes of Gorillaz, The Strokes, Tyler, The Creator, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Glass Animals and more.

Violent Soho’s last album, Everything Is A-OK, dropped in 2020, representing a new era for the band.

"It's so much more comfortable in the sound as a record because we just gave ourselves so much more breathing room," vocalist and guitarist Luke Boerdam told The Music around the album's release. 

What came from that breathing room is some of the band's best work to date; the tone-setting opener Sleep Year, the reflective Slow Down Sonic, the condemning Vacation Forever and the haunting A-OK.
