Fans quickly took to social media to air their grievances over the announcement and it didn’t take long for the fancy vinyl to not only appear on eBay, but sell for thousands:
Hopefully, a retail release will be confirmed soon.
The good news is the band has today unveiled a 30th-anniversary release of their first commercially-available release, OPIATE.
Featuring a reimagined and extended version of the EP’s title track, OPIATE2 will be available digitally on March 1 with a Blu-ray only visual companion coming March 18.
After previously collaborating on the visuals for the band’s current Fear Inoculumtour, Tool guitarist Adam Jones worked alongside visual artist Dominic Hailstone (Alien: Covenant, The Eel) on the 10-plus minute film, which is the band’s first new video in 15 years.
It’s expected the clip will “continues Tool’s knack for merging the aural and visual worlds, creating an all-encompassing experience for the listener that has been a hallmark of the outfit since their inception”.
Tool last visited Australia in February 2020, promoting Fear Inoculum with a huge national tour.
