Grammy-award winning musician Wally De Backer has revealed he has no plans to release any new music under the Gotye name that made him an international success story.
In an official Gotye newsletter sent out today, De Backer didn't entirely rule out closing the curtains on Gotye completely but it doesn't sound like we'll be getting a Somebody That I Used To Know take two anytime soon.
"There will be no new Gotye music," the post began.
"Wait, maybe there will be. I’m not entirely sure right now. There are many contingencies."
De Backer released the statement amongst a contemplation of his musical future, questioning whether a new Gotye release would be heard.
"One of those is the continued human capacity for sound perception. If the world gets noisier at the present rate, and instances of early-onset deafness rise correspondingly, and I release my magnus opus in a format that requires the generation and amplification of sound waves via some form of audio reproduction technology in order to be perceptible, will anybody hear this work?"
The decision appears to be a result of the other projects De Backer is currently focusing on, including his band The Basics and his new independent record label, Spirit Level.
Gotye's most recent album was 2011's Making Mirrors, which scored the Melbourne-based muso the Grammy for Best Alternative Album in 2013.
