It’ll be the indie icons’ first trek Down Under since 2018
The National (Graham MacIndoe)
The National have announced their hotly awaited return to Australia, slating four massive shows – in some of the country’s most prestigious venues, no less – for early next year.
The run will begin at Meanjin/Brisbane’s Riverstage venue on Wednesday February 28, followed that Friday (March 1) by a show at the Aware Super Theatre in Eora/Sydney. From there, the modern-day indie icons will head to Naarm/Melbourne – playing the Sidney Myer Music Bowl on Tuesday March 5 – before wrapping up in Boorloo/Perth on Saturday March 9, when they’ll play Kings Park And Botanic Gardens.
All four gigs will see The National joined by their world-renowned indie-rock contemporaries in Fleet Foxes, who much like the headliners, haven’t performed on Australian shores since the start of 2018. Annie Hamilton will also deliver her one-of-a-kind stage show, opening for all shows across the run.
Tickets go on sale at 12pm local time this Friday (September 22), with a Live Nation pre-sale running from 1pm a day earlier (September 21) – see here for more info on both sales.
The tour comes in support of The National’s surprise tenth album, Laugh Track, which arrived without prior announcement today (September 18) via 4AD. The tour will also celebrate its predecessor, First Two Pages Of Frankenstein, which only hit shelves back in April of this year.
