With that striped sunlight sound...
It seems like the City of Brisbane was right in naming a bridge after the iconic band, as The Go-Betweens have taken out the top spot in Guardian Australia's inaugural Songs Of Brisbane poll.
After launching the poll during BIGSOUND earlier in the month, the band's sunshine-y track Streets Of Your Town off 16 Lovers Lane came in first after public voting.
The song was written by the late Grant McLennan in 1988.
Speaking to the Guardian, the band's co-founder Robert Forster said the win meant a lot to him. “It’s that it’s coming direct from music lovers that’s important for me, because music lovers have always supported The Go-Betweens and it means that that continues," he said.
The love for The Go-Betweens in Brisbane is very much real, and the band's song Cattle And Cane also took out third spot.
