Are Sunk Loto really releasing their best music 20 years into their career? It sure seems that way with their first track in two decades, The Gallows Wait.
After a week of teasing, the Aussie metalcore favourites have unveiled the highly anticipated new single ahead of their upcoming Between Birth And Death 20th anniversary tour.
The Gallows Wait is a furious new number from Sunk Loto, containing jagged guitars, screamed and sung vocals, breakdowns, and a beautifully sludgy outro. This single absolutely rips – it definitely doesn’t sound like the band have been away from making music for 20 years.
Producer Forrester Savell works wonders, making Sunk Loto sound fresh and vital for their devoted faithful and new fans who will inevitably jump on board.
The Gallows Wait got its radio premiere via short.fast.loud on triple j earlier this afternoon; check out the animated video created by Jackson Samuel below. The single also marks Sunk Loto’s first track with new guitarist Rohan “Ro” Stevenson, who you may know better under his moniker of I Built The Sky.
The Gallows Wait begins a new chapter for Sunk Loto, who have a new album and new singles coming soon. Vocalist Jason Brown explained in a press release, “Feels like a dream coming back with new music for our fans after a 20-year absence.

“This was only made possible by bringing Ro into the band as a collaborator and bringing new life into the band musically. I’m so excited for this new chapter for Sunk Loto. I feel like we can bring something to the heavy music scene that has been missing.”
Brown continued, “I can’t wait to share our first song back and a new album to follow. Really happy to be thanking our fans by playing Between Birth And Death in full after 20 years of unwavering loyalty. And as a special treat we will also be performing our new single The Gallows Wait. It was really great to work with Forrester Savell and Luke Palmer on it, they definitely played a massive part in taking the new songs to the next level. See you at a show soon.”
Stevenson added, “Joining Sunk Loto feels like one of those impossible scenarios that plays out in the movies. As a long-time fan, I’ve been really excited for the recent resurgence of Sunk, but now having joined as a member I’m on a mission to help the boys reach their full potential and bring the best of what Sunk does to the fans who’ve been waiting so patiently. I promise, our first single back will bring the goods, Sunk at their…no OUR best and we couldn’t be more excited to share it with you. Get ready!!!”
