Smash Mouth Detail 'Fush Yu Mang' Reissue In Honour Of Steve Harwell

Smash Mouth are preparing to unveil a vinyl reissue of their 1997 debut album, Fush Yu Mang, in honour of late original singer Steve Harwell.

The vinyl, a coloured strawberry and black galaxy swirl, will be released via Real Gone Music on Friday, 24 November. The album features one of Smash Mouth’s most well-known hits – Walkin’ On The Sun – as well as other singles, The Fonz and a cover of War’s Why Can’t We Be Friends?

Steve Harwell passed away last month at the age of 56. His death followed reports of being in hospice care, with his manager revealing to TMZ that he only had “a week or so” to live.

Harwell’s manager, Robert Hayes, confirmed the singer’s passing in a statement to Rolling Stone. Hayes said that Harwell “passed peacefully and comfortably” surrounded by family. While Hayes didn’t reveal a cause of death, Harwell was hospitalised and then in hospice care following liver failure.

“Steve Harwell was a true American Original. A larger than life character who shot up into the sky like a Roman candle. Steve should be remembered for his unwavering focus and impassioned determination to reach the heights of pop stardom,” Harwell’s former bandmates in Smash Mouth wrote in a social media statement.

The statement continued, “And the fact that he achieved this near-impossible goal with very limited musical experience makes his accomplishments all the more remarkable. His only tools were his irrepressible charm and charisma, his fearlessly reckless ambition, and his king-size cajones.

“Steve lived a 100% full-throttle life.

“Burning brightly across the universe before burning out.

“Good night Heevo Veev.

“Rest in peace knowing you aimed for the stars, and magically hit your target.”

Steve Harwell was born in California in 1967. The singer left Smash Mouth in 2021 after forming the band in 1994. He departed the band due to health issues and was replaced by Zach Goode.
