"Skepta is not able to travel to Australia ... for an unexpected and personal reason"
UK grime luminary Skepta has cancelled his imminent tour of Australia and New Zealand a day before it was due to commence in Perth.
In a statement released this afternoon, promoters advised "with deep disappointment" that Skepta had to cancel all 11 planned dates "due to circumstances beyond his control".
The cancellation comes soon after the artist had originally rescheduled a handful of dates on the tour to make accommodations for his recent nomination for the prestigious Mercury Prize, which saw the first two shows of the tour — originally scheduled for 14 and 16 September — moved to the back end of the run.
"With deep disappointment, Skepta is not able to travel to Australia and New Zealand at this time for an unexpected and personal reason," the statement said. "His tour ... is regrettably cancelled. Full ticket refunds will be available on all shows from point of purchase. We are working in close conjunction with the artist's booking agency and management in order to organise a new run of shows in 2017."
