Look at Short Stack – aren’t they all grown up? Since the mid-2000s to early 2010’s MySpace days, the Budgewoi, New South Wales trio have maintained a dedicated fanbase by putting out pop-rock and pop-punk tunes you can place alongside bands like All Time Low and Tonight Alive on your Spotify playlists.
Yesterday, they returned with Shotgun Wedding via UNFD, proving that pop-punk is alive and well in the hands of lead singer and guitarist Shaun Diviney, bassist and backing vocalist Andy Clemmensen and drummer Bradie Webb. Their new single balances glossy pop sensibilities with carefully crafted vigour in textbook Short Stack fashion.
“We wanted to write a really fun, 90s pop punk song influenced by the bands we grew up listening to," Diviney said in a statement.
Citing the bands, he added, "blink-182, NOFX, Good Charlotte kind of vibes. We really wanted it to be fast and energetic; I love Bradie’s drums just powering through the whole song.” You can check out the visualiser video below.
Shotgun Wedding arrives a few months before Short Stack’s upcoming Regional(ish) Australian tour with Hevenshe and The Beautiful Monument, starting in Chelsea Heights in early October.
Following a break-up in 2012, a brief formation and a second hiatus in 2014 and 2015, respectively, a jubilant Short Stack reunion in 2020 ultimately led to the band's 2022 studio album, Maybe There’s No Heaven.
