Sabrina Carpenter Pays Tribute To Olivia Newton-John In Melbourne

Taylor Swift’s Australian tour opener, Sabrina Carpenter, has been winning over Australian audiences with her stunning tribute to Olivia Newton-John.

A song she began covering in March 2023 and last performed in May, Carpenter brought out the Grease classic Hopelessly Devoted To You to Melbourne while supporting Taylor Swift on her Eras Tour.

On YouTube, fans have responded to her rendition of the hit by asking, “how is she so magical?” and writing, “awesome!  😍Olivia Newton-John would have loved it.

“In addition to Sabrina Carpenter continuing her regular new album schedule, i wish she would release albums of covers of great old songs such as this. i've seen numerous old videos of her doing covers and she's a great singer”.

While paying tribute to Newton-John anywhere else in the world is already special, honouring her in her home country of Australia is simply sublime.

Like Disney peers before her, from Selena Gomez, Demi Lovato, and Miley Cyrus, Sabrina Carpenter has enjoyed a successful music career. She’s released five albums to date, with her most recent, Emails I Can’t Send, released in July 2022. The album hit #44 on the ARIA Albums Chart. Carpenter is currently embarking on her first-ever Australian tour dates.

Olivia Newton-John passed away on 8 August 2022 following a lengthy fight with cancer.

A singer, songwriter, actress, entrepreneur, and activist, Newton-John was a multiple-time Grammy Award-winner with a legacy of hits, including Physical and I Honestly Love You. Her 1981 single Physical was a worldwide smash hit. Accompanied by one of the most instantly recognisable video clips ever made, for which it received the Grammy for video of the year, Physical is a cornerstone of early '80s pop.

Since being diagnosed with breast cancer in 1992, Newton-John dedicated much of her time to supporting efforts and raising funds to find a cure for cancer. Newton-John's work in that space includes the establishment of the Olivia Newton-John Cancer Wellness & Research Centre in Melbourne and the Olivia Newton-John Foundation.
