This morning, UK rockers Royal Blood announce their first Australian tour since May 2018.

When Royal Blood last visited Australia, The Music’s Bryget Chrisfield labelled their performance at Melbourne’s Margaret Court Arena “gold-medal contenders in the two-piece category of the Gig Olympics”.

Starting their run at Auckland’s Spark Arena on Thursday, 7 December, the Figure It Out group land in Australia for a string of shows beginning at Brisbane’s Riverstage on Monday, 11 December.

From there, Royal Blood head to Sydney’s Hordern Pavilion on Wednesday, 13 December, Melbourne’s Festival Hall on Friday, 15 December, followed by the Hindley Street Music Hall in Adelaide on Tuesday, 19 December, and wraps up at Perth’s HBF Stadium on Thursday, 21 December.

Royal Blood will be joined by Aussie favourites Psychedelic Porn Crumpets and Sydney up-and-comers The Buoys in Australia, while at the Auckland show, the headliners will be accompanied by Racing and Elliott & Vincent.

“We’re incredibly excited to be announcing these shows in Australia and New Zealand in December this year,” the band commented in a statement. “We haven’t toured over there since 2018, so we can’t wait to get back out there. It’s been far too long.”

The Frontier Touring pre-sale begins on Thursday, 7 September, at 3 pm local time. General tickets will be available from Monday, 11 September, also at 3 pm local time. All tickets will be available via the Frontier Touring website.

Royal Blood burst onto the global rock scene in November 2013 with their debut single, Out Of The Black. With vocalist Mike Kerr’s distorted bass and Ben Thatcher on the drums, the UK duo instantly recalled the glory days of 2000s garage rock.

Since releasing their self-titled debut album in August 2014, Royal Blood have maintained a steady fanbase with their follow-up albums, How Did We Get So Dark?, released in 2017, Typhoons (2021), and Back To The Water Below, which was released last Friday (1 September).

“No-one saw the years of us playing in loads of bands to no-one, that all gets swept under the carpet because the other story is magical and much more wondrous,” Kerr said in a statement about their new album, reflecting on the band’s journey so far. “Luck is where passion meets opportunity. We got our golden ticket and walked out as tiny ninjas.”

He continued, “We were in the right place at the right time, and we have to remember to give ourselves the credit that we didn’t get into this position by winning a quiz show; we put in a serious amount of work. It’s taken us four albums to realise this isn’t luck; we’re good, and we’re committed to this.”
