Roger Waters Releases Teaser To His Re-recorded 'The Dark Side Of The Moon'

Roger Waters has unveiled a fresh look at his reworked The Dark Side Of The Moon release.

In the teaser shared on YouTube, the original Pink Floyd bassist listens to the re-recorded Us And Them in the studio. 

Waters also shared a statement about his intentions behind the project, where he wrote:

“When we recorded the stripped-down songs for the Lockdown Sessions, the 50th anniversary of the release of Dark Side Of The Moon was looming on the horizon. It occurred to me that Dark Side Of The Moon could well be a suitable candidate for a similar reworking, partly as a tribute to the original work, but also to re-address the political and emotional message of the whole album.”

He understands that for many listeners, any adjustments made to Dark Side won’t make the classic album any better. Waters continued, “We are now in the process of finishing the final mix. It's turned out really great and I'm excited for everyone to hear it. It's not a replacement for the original which, obviously, is irreplaceable. 

“But it is a way for the seventy-nine-year-old man to look back across the intervening fifty years into the eyes of the twenty-nine-year-old and say, to quote a poem of mine about my Father, ‘We did our best, we kept his trust, our Dad would have been proud of us’. And also it is a way for me to honour a recording that Nick and Rick and Dave and I have every right to be very proud of.” Check out the teaser below.

Roger Waters revealed he was re-recording The Dark Side Of The Moon last month.

In an interview with The Telegraph and shared by Brooklyn Vegan, he said, "I wrote The Dark Side Of The Moon. Let’s get rid of all this 'we' crap."

Waters added, "Of course, we were a band, there were four of us, we all contributed – but it’s my project, and I wrote it. So… blah!" As Brooklyn Vegan reports and Pink Floyd fans know, Waters is credited as the sole songwriter on three of the album's ten tracks - Money, Brain Damage and Eclipse - and credited as a co-writer on Time and On The Run.

In January, Pink Floyd announced the 50th-anniversary box set commemorating The Dark Side Of The Moon after teasing something Dark Side-related on social media. The re-release will be out on 24 March.

The box set arrives a month after the band added 18 previously unreleased live albums from the seminal Dark Side Of The Moon era and an Alternative Tracks 1972 EP to streaming services.
