Reliqa Announce Debut Album 'Secrets Of The Future'

Sydney-based alternative/progressive metal band Reliqa have announced the release of their long-awaited debut album, Secrets Of The Future, and it’s coming on Friday, 31 May.

In addition to the album announcement, Reliqa have shared the epic new single Killstar (The Cold World). This song harkens back to their progressive metal roots and is packed with virtuoso guitar riffs and surprising vocal turns from Monique Pym. The song’s various movements lead up to an epic climax—you can watch the music video below.

Today’s announcement arrives after the Sydney group opened for US rockers Halestorm on their recent run of Knotfest Australia sideshows and a month after they signed record deals with Greyscale and Nuclear Blast Records.

According to a press release, Secrets Of The Future promises to live up to the title, melding elements of melodic metalcore, contemporary rap, K-pop, J-metal, atmospheric pop, modern progressive metal, and more traditional rock and metal for a futuristic, stylish album.

“Aesthetic-wise, Secrets Of The Future has some soft sci-fi elements to it, especially through the artwork and some of the soundscapes throughout,” the band said about their forthcoming debut album.

“We say 'soft' because it's not a fictional concept album, but with the album title focusing so much on the future, the vibes are inherently dark, ominous, foreboding, a little bit dystopian at times.”

They added, “Our songwriting style shifted in 2023 when we started writing this album, and that change in workflow is another reason why some of the songs on this record are so different to anything we’ve done before, like Cave, Terminal, Crossfire and Two Steps Apart.”

Reliqa also opened for Spiritbox on their one-off Knotfest Australia sideshow last year. The Music writer Rod Whitfield praised their music, particularly their “heavy but complex breakdowns, ambience and atmospherics, instrumental wizardry and neck-snapping dynamics.”
