The third-wave ska vets will brighten up the joint this October
Venerated third-wave ska veterans Reel Big Fish and Less Than Jake are no strangers to Australian shores, but that doesn't mean we're anywhere near tired of welcoming them, and it won't be long at all until the next opportunity arises, with both acts announcing a joint headline tour of the east coast later this year.
Kicking off at Melbourne's Prince Bandroom on Thursday, 1 October, the many-membered outfits will head up the east coast via Max Watt's Sydney (Friday, 2 October) and Brisbane (Saturday, 3 October), wrapping up with a quick detour to the sunny Gold Coast, to play the Coolangatta Hotel on Sunday, 4 October.
Both bands have spent the better part of the past 23-24 years as forces to be reckoned with, first as frontrunners of the '90s third-wave ska movement and then as unlikely survivors of the post-third-wave bust, when everyone decided ska was bad again and consciously forgot about bands like The Mighty Mighty Bosstones. At least, that's the impression that we get. Heyooooooooo. Sorry. Either way, the bands' longevity is admirable, and their buoyant live shows are legendary. Get in.
Tickets for Reel Big Fish and Less Than Jake's upcoming tour will go on sale from 9am next Thursday, 13 August, through a variety of outlets. See theGuide or The Music App for further details.
