It’s been one hell of a year for Naarm punk/hip hop artist MUDRAT, who is closing out the first year of his explosive project with new single Year Of The Rat.

If you’ve been paying attention to the world of heavy music in Australia recently, then MUDRAT is undeniably one name that would have been coming your way. Launching the project in December 2023, MUDRAT has turned heads with every move thanks to his ferocious tunes and devastating live show.

Now, he’s turned heads once again thanks to the release of Year Of The Rat, which furthers his status as one of the most exciting names on the Australian music scene today.

Brutal, bold, and vulnerable, Year Of The Rat is another boundary-pusher for MUDRAT, utilising those classic Cypress Hill-inspired boom-bap beats, and throwing down a metal-infused head-banging chorus that commands your attention. Delivered with his snarling Australian accent, it’s unmistakeably MUDRAT all the way through.

A multi-talented creative visionary, rapper, singer, and writer by trade, MUDRAT has been making a name for himself thanks to his music, which arrives as a unique blend of punk, metal, and hip hop. Reminiscent of the nu metal explosion of the ‘90s/’00s, yet filtered through a 21st century lense, MUDRAT backs it up with cutting, raw lyricism and a delivery that is as passionate as it its ferocious.

Following the release of tracks such as the Emile Battour-fetauring debut MUD last December, and following it up with I HATE RICH CUNTS in April, MUDRAT has managed to also gain widespread acclaim for his accompanying live show, which is a blistering showcase of his musical and performance talents.

Though a solo act in spirit, the MUDRAT live show sees him backed by a five-piece band featuring the aforementioned Battour (formerly of Ocean Grove) on drums, and Carlo Darbisi (formerly of Earth Caller) on guitar.

From opening for BARKAA, selling out his debut headliner at Shotkickers, and blowing minds at BIGSOUND, he’s swiftly turning into a must-see name across the board. Year Of The Rat might be closing out MUDRAT’s first year, but it’s clear he’s just getting started.
