Madonna has confirmed her rumoured collaboration with Sam Smith is coming next Friday, 9 June, and it’s a brand-new track called Vulgar.
Speculation about their potential musical partnership swirled last week after Smith teased hours before a UK show, “Manchester – we’ve got a special surprise for you this evening. Unholy won’t be the last song”. Sadly, the surprise wasn’t revealed as Smith cancelled the concert four songs into the night.
Another social media post suggested some kind of collaboration with the Like A Prayer megastar, with the pair repeating their names in a short video and a billboard that states “S&M” found in Manchester.
In a new social media post, Madonna revealed that the S&M billboard is part of a campaign promoting the pair’s new single. Madonna and Sam Smith first crossed paths when the Ray Of Light singer introduced Kim Petras and Smith for their performance at the 2023 Grammy Awards. Earlier that night, Smith and Petras won the Grammy for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for Unholy.
“It was an honor [sic] for me to introduce Kim Petras and Sam Smith at the Grammys,” Madonna wrote on Instagram in February.
“I wanted to give the last award which was Album of the year, but I thought it was more important that I present the first trans- woman performing at the Grammys— a History making moment!! And on top of that she won a Grammy!!” You can check out the Grammy performance of Unholy below.

Last Wednesday (24 May), Smith’s gig in Manchester abruptly ended four songs into the set. According to fan reports, the house lights turned off, leaving the arena in darkness before the I’m Not The Only One singer departed the stage and a PA announcement revealed that the gig was cancelled due to "vocal issues".
Some reports suggest that after hearing about the death of Tina Turner, there was a "pure technological malfunction".
After initial reports of a power cut circulated on social media, Smith said that “something was really wrong” with their voice.
In recent Madonna news, the photographs from her controversial and provocative coffee table book, SEX, are going up for auction this October.
Christie’s, a world-leading art and luxury business, will host viewings in London (late May/early June) and Paris (late June/early July), before the auction takes place in New York on 6 October. Interested buyers can view the photos from 30 September until auction day.
Madonna x Meisel – The SEX Photographs will highlight original photos from the 1992 book, in collaboration with photographer Steven Meisel. With over 40 photographs going up for auction, a portion of the proceeds will go to Madonna’s non-profit organisation, Raising Malawi.
