Band claim they toiled hard before hitting the big time.
John Bramwell, guitarist and frontman for the critically-acclaimed indie rock band I Am Kloot has called the story of his band's success “bullshit”.
Although the band broke into the spotlight with 2010's Mercury Prize-nominated The Sky At Night, Bramwell outlines the typical years of labouring in obscurity, implying the journalistic narrative of breakout success may not fit the actual events.
“None of us were exactly spring chickens when we formed the band,” he explains. “We'd gone through all of the standard trials and travails. I think we all felt like we'd been banging our head against the wall for years, trying to make something with music.””
“So, the notion of, 'Oh, wow, suddenly it's all happening'is such bullshit. Utter bullshit. For thirteen years, we've been doing exactly what we've always wanted to do… we've never been exactly sitting on our arses waiting for stardom.”
