Good Things Festival Teases First 2023 Act Ahead Of Line-up Drop

Australia’s premier heavy music festival, Good Things, has dropped a major teaser about an artist to feature on this year’s event before the line-up is revealed next week.

We’ve known for a while now that this year’s Good Things takes place at the same time as last year – on the first three days of December.

Melbourne is first, returning to the Flemington Racecourse, with the Sydney leg back at Centennial Park and the Brisbane event at the Showgrounds. But there’s been no sign of the line-up as December draws closer - until this week.

Good Things Festival organisers have revealed that the line-up will finally drop on Wednesday, 16 August, at 8 am AEST.

In a teaser video to excite its fans, the intro to the song Goddess by US alternative act PVRIS plays in the background, basically confirming the project of vocalist Lynn Gunn and bassist Brian MacDonald to appear at this year’s festival.

So, with PVRIS confirmed as an act at Good Things 2023, who else will we see? A thread on the triple j Reddit contains a speculative comment section packed with predictions.

Bands who currently have the first three days of December free, have new albums under their belts and are likely to feature on a Good Things line-up include metalcore outfit The Ghost Inside, rockers Underoath, pop-punk heroes The Wonder Years, hardcore band DRAIN, and hopefully stacks of local legends like Drastic Park, The Beautiful Monument, Aurateque, Patient Sixty-Seven and more.

We also haven’t seen Korn and Avenged Sevenfold down under in quite a while; we’d love some legacy heavier acts to appear on those stages.

In terms of headliners, we’re crossing our fingers for Fall Out Boy, who never made it to Australia for that cancelled 2020 Hella Mega Tour with Green Day and Weezer; Limp Bizkit, and maybe an Australian band like Polaris or The Butterfly Effect. Perhaps even a punt on King Gizzard And The Lizard Wizard, who released a metal album this year?

With Paramore, Devin Townsend and Bloc Party touring down under in November, it’s doubtful that they’ll extend their stays to December or return just weeks after performing here. Watch this space next Wednesday.

Last year’s Good Things Festival was headlined by Bring Me The Horizon and Deftones. Elsewhere on the line-up, NOFX, TISM, Kisschasy playing United Paper People in its entirety, The Amity Affliction, Lacuna Coil, Jinjer, Electric Callboy, and many more also appeared.
