Lizzo has fired at her critics on social media, apparently quitting music and signing off by declaring, “I didn’t sign up for this shit”.
Taking to Instagram this morning (30 March), the Good As Hell singer wrote against an orange and yellow backdrop, “I’m getting tired of putting up with being dragged by everyone in my life and on the internet. All I want is to make music and make people happy and help the world be a little better than how I found it.
“But I’m starting to feel like the world doesn’t want me in it. I’m constantly up against lies being told about me for clout & views… being the butt of the joke every single time because of how I look… my character being picked apart by people who don’t know me and disrespecting my name.”
She signed off by writing, “I didn’t sign up for this shit – I quit”.
Billboard reached out to representatives for Lizzo to receive confirmation about the validity of her statement.
Lizzo’s statement follows a roller coaster 2023, in which the singer appeared on Sesame Street, Star Wars: The Mandalorian, and The Simpsons, visited Hobbiton, and toured Australia (with a headline slot at Splendour In The Grass at the tour’s core)—but things took a sour turn when, in August, she was sued by her former dancers for alleged mistreatment and sexual harassment (allegations she labelled “outrageous”).

Former dancers alleged Lizzo body shamed and fired an employee and, amongst other claims, accused her of sexual harassment.
The lawsuit, obtained by NBC News, said, “Plaintiffs were aghast with how little regard Lizzo showed for the bodily autonomy of her employees and those around her, especially in the presence of many people whom she employed.”
Calling the claims “false allegations” that have been “sensationalized” [sic], the About Damn Time singer said she was “hurt” by the public claims.
In a live review of Lizzo’s show at Perth’s RAC Arena, The Music’s Sam Mead declared that the concert was a “multimedia extravaganza of love for the whole family and then some”. You can read the review here.
