According to a TikTok posted on the night, ONEFOUR seem to rap the lyrics, “They gonna cancel us and thought that we’d forget it. Now they’re out here acting all apologetic.”
This is most likely in reference to the group’s past tensions with the police. In 2019, ONEFOUR’s sold out national tour was cancelled after a police crackdown. Their 2023 Netflix documentary, Against All Odds, reignited this tension again, with unprecedented police presence at the SXSW screening.
The controversial rap group has many fans, as well as haters. Earlier this year, police foiled a plot to murder two of the members. Their longtime manager subsequently left the fold, while ex-member Pio ‘YP’ Misa was ordained as a Christian priest.
Chase & Status’ now-finished Australian tour came in support of their 2023 mixtape 2 Ruff, Vol. 1, and marked the duo’s first full headline tour Down Under since 2014.
