Amyl & The Sniffers Claim This Week's Highest ARIA Chart Debut With 'Comfort To Me'

It's been a massive week for local artists on the ARIA Charts. 

Melbourne four-piece Amyl & The Sniffers have come in at #2 on the chart with their latest Comfort To Me, making them this week's highest debut (just behind Drake who holds onto the #1 from last week). 

The album follows on from their 2019 debut self-titled album which landed at #22 on the chart on debut. Comfort To Me has also come in at #1 on the Vinyl Chart. 

"The amount of time and thought I put into the lyrics for this album is completely different from the EPs, and even the first record. Half of the lyrics were written during the Australian bushfire season, when we were already wearing masks to protect ourselves from the smoke in the air," said frontwoman Amy Taylor of the album. 

"And then when the pandemic hit, our options were the same as everyone: go find a day job and work in intense conditions or sit at home and drown in introspection. I fell into the latter category. I had all this energy inside of me and nowhere to put it, because I couldn’t perform, and it had a hectic effect on my brain. My brain evolved and warped and my way of thinking about the world completely changed..."

Sydney's Pist Idiots have landed at #12 with their debut album Idiocracy (which has also while legendary blues act The Black Sorrows have seen their latest, Saint Georges Road, come in #14.

The Kid LAROI holds onto his position at #1 on the Singles Chart with his Stay with Justin Bieber. This means that the Sydney rapper has now officially secured the second most weeks at #1 by an Australian artist on the ARIA Chart with 10 weeks, behind record-holder Tones & I with Dance Monkey who spent 24 weeks in the position. 

The Voice Australia 2021 winner Bella Taylor Smith has debuted on the chart at #31 with her track Higher. This marks the first time a winner's single has landed on the chart since Judah Kelly's Count On Me in July 2017 when it came in at #19.
