Pianos Become The Teeth release colourful interpretative video for their moving track Late Lives.
Baltimore five-piece Pianos Become The Teeth released one of the albums of the year last October in Keep You; a record that saw the band almost completely detach from their hardcore and post-hardcore roots to produce some hauntingly beautiful and poignant melodic post-rock. One of the highlights from Keep You is Late Lives; one of the most vibrant and surprisingly upbeat songs from the release. Frontman Kyle Durfey’s lyrics shine on Late Lives, centering on his father’s battle and eventual, untimely death as a result of multiple sclerosis. Lines like: ‘Gone a little too soon/But I know you hated being late/And I guess you arrived right on time’ are damn near enough to make a grown man well up, which you just might if you follow along with the lyrics while you listen.
The band collaborated with Waterproof Pictures, who have also worked with TV On The Radio, to create an ‘abstract interpretation’ of Late Lives, which you sort of just have to watch to understand. It wanders through a range of painting and artistry techniques, with brush strokes of rich colour and clouds of bright paint in water creating an almost warming, hypnotic effect.
