Video Premiere: Romanie - Hallucinating
Prolific Melbourne-based artist on the rise drops powerful new single & video.

Continuing her impressive output is Naarm/Melbourne's Romanie, who returns with her third single for the year so far with the punchy and powerful alt-rock sounds of Hallucinating out today, with the music video premiering on Pilerats today!
Written during one of Melbourne's many COVID lockdowns, Hallucinating sees Romanie step away from the jangly pop of her last single Anthony in favour of fuzzier, distorted guitar hooks and commanding vocals, while still retaining plenty of pop sensibility and catchiness.
Regarding Hallucinating, Romanie explains “I really just wanted to capture the fun we had whilst recording - some of my greatest inspirations like Big Thief and Wet Leg do the same thing where you can almost hear the artists smiling on a recording.”

Alongside the single, Romanie has also prepared an all too appropriate music video that sees her playing guitar while blindfolded and singing of the hallucination inducing sleep deprivation, with the video directed by Melbourne creative Richard Clifford (Glass Animals, Mac Demarco, Charles Bradley). On the video, Romanie says “I straight away knew I wanted to create a visual world for Hallucinating and called my friend and long term collaborator Rick Clifford up. We brainstormed some ideas and he came up with the blindfold theme which I absolutely love.”
