Originally written in 2021 and a staple of her live shows, Geelong-born, Melbourne-based singer-songwriter Hassall has unveiled the emotional & hard-hitting, brilliantly titled Hot Girls, Rock Bands, Star Wars, which alongside a live video version are premiering on Pilerats a day ahead of release.

Written in the car while driving away from her ex’s place, Hot Girls, Rock Bands, Star Wars sees Matilda Hassall reflecting on “leaving someone who you still really love, and all the things you miss about them that you didn’t consider beforehand… brothers, mothers, and bedroom wall posters” to the tune of an alt-folk and country infused cut of catchy indie rock, starting off mellow before building to the anthemic, singalong inducing climax and resolution.

Hot Girls, Rock Bands, Star Wars follows on from last month’s single Bad Boy as well as a recent four date residency at the iconic The Gasometer Hotel, while last October Hassall, in full band form, opened for Aussie legends You Am I.
