Having just released a new single and currently on the road for Laneway 2024, we check in with The Buoys to find out what’s on their travel playlist.
When the 2024 Laneway Festival lineup dropped last year, we were blessed with a stacked lineup of both international and homegrown talent featuring the likes of Stormzy, Steve Lacy and Dominic Fike all playing exclusively alongside the likes of Raye, AJ Tracey, d4vd, Faye Webster, Nia Archives, Unknown Mortal Orchestra and many more.
As if that wasn’t enough, just a few weeks ago Laneway announced a partnership with Jameson Irish Whiskey to add nine new Aussie acts to the lineup to play a fifth stage in Melbourne, the newly minted Jameson’s House of Rounds at St Jerome’s Bar. Featuring a mix of established and emerging acts, The Buoys, These New South Whales, CIVIC, dust and The Belair Lip Bombs.
Laneway Festival co-founder Jerome Borazio says, “You can take the festival out of the bar, but you can’t take the bar out of the festival. The original St Jerome’s Bar was the heart of Laneway Festival. It had a rebellious spirit, a wild energy and welcomed creative people from all walks of life. Jameson House of Rounds will reflect the original essence of the bar with its incredible lineup and we’re looking forward to it being an ongoing part of Laneway Festival”.

With the Sydney leg of Laneway going down last weekend, The Buoys are currently taking a road trip down to Melbourne for that city's leg of the tour, riding aboard the Jameson 'Always On Tour' Bus. In exciting times for the band, they’ve just released their latest anthemic single Guard My Heart - perfect timing for their Laneway appearances.
With all this going on, Zoe, Hilary, Tess & Courtney from The Buoys were kind enough to put together and share their current road trip playlist of tunes keeping them going on the frog & toad, with each member telling us about a few of the selections. Have a listen and get to know below!
mazie – girls just wanna have
This has been on my high rotation since my friend showed it to me a few weeks ago and I can’t believe I didn’t know about it sooner. It’s the kinda song you play after you’ve been listening to chill music on a long drive, but you’re moments away from the festival, so it’s time to roll down the windows and play a ‘ramp-up-energy entrance song’ to get you in the mood for a fun day.
Twin Peaks - My Boys
This whole album is such a road trip album, anything Twin Peaks really. The lyrics speak for themself in this one “90 miles an hour down the f**kin’ street with my friends. With my boys, it’s a long way home” - I think they meant Buoys!
The Spinners - I'll Be Around
This track is an absolute classic! The opening guitar line is all the permission you need to let your hair down and start coasting down the highway with the top down in your vintage 1970s sky blue convertible**
Ariana Grande - Yes, And?
I’ve had this song on constant repeat since it came out. I’m a sucker for anything that even vaguely references Vogue by Madonna and this song does that in spades! A perfect mood-upper to get the driving momentum going again post-lunch.
The Beaches - Blame Brett
The Last Dinner Party - Nothing Matters
Two incredible bands with choruses that you can sing your heart out to!
Red Hot Chili Peppers - Scar Tissue
It was the first song that got me into guitar and for some reason still one of my all time favourite video clips. Which conveniently is a band in a car road tripping. Can’t get better than that.
