Premiere: Pinkish Blu continue to reach new peaks with a hazy new single, Old Blue

Since releasing their debut single Lovely in 2018, Adelaide-based indie-pop band Pinkish Blu have seemingly gone from strength to strength. Their early, introductory singles throughout 2018 and 2019 built the four-piece a profile through striking indie-pop, capturing the nostalgia of bands like M83 and Owl City with a cutting-edge, forward-thinking vision more comparable to now-heavyweights such as The 1975; something expanded upon with a career-encapsulating debut EP there's no such thing as good people in 2020.

In the work since their debut EP, however, we've been able to watch Pinkish Blu evolve and further themselves in real-time, blooming in both sound and image as they continue to push their sound into new dimensions. It's something they've been able to replicate on the live stage too, becoming an in-demand addition to festival line-ups - such as Groovin the Moo - and national tours, supporting artists such as Odette as teasers of new material thrive throughout the last seven months.

On that, we've already received two tastes of Pinkish Blu's next chapter already. In March, they shared Backward - their first single since there's no such thing as good people the year prior - and followed it up in April via the release of Start A Band, an eclectic second tease. Now, we're stoked to premiere the third piece of the overarching puzzle in the form of Old Blue, a song that seems to capture the Pinkish Blu vision perfectly and show how they're continuing to reach new peaks with everything they release and everything they do through 2021.

Officially out tomorrow, Old Blue is a single that oozes with the hazy, alt-pop nostalgia that's become synonymous with Pinkish Blu, all while switching it up in a way to create something a little more sparking and electric, in a bold new step that furthers the band's sound. It's an invigorating listen that seems to open the doors for their future; creating potential paths that will further amplify the Pinkish Blu spirit in new sounds and new ways, all without veering too heavily from the foundations they've laid already.

"Sonically we’ve tried to combine two contrasting sections to create an interesting switch up of sorts but all the while trying to not throw the listener out of the song completely," the band say on the single, which premieres below alongside an official video clip directed by Aimee-Lee Curran. "Lyrically it has to be our most self-critical and honest work to date, looking at the internal disdain for oneself and discussing the impact that has on those around us. But also how with enough self-criticism one can turn that all around for the betterment of others."

The single arrives ahead of a national tour planned for later this month and plenty more new music in the pipeline.
