Premiere: Harris - Defiantly, Maybe EP

Melbourne singer-songwriter Harris may be dropping his sophomore EP, but he’s by no means fresh to the Aussie music scene. Winning Unearthed High back in 2011 with his band The McQueens, Harris would go on to become the frontman of Fan Girl and supporting the likes of Catfish and the Bottlemen, The Vines, Ecca Vandal and Birds of Tokyo.

While Fan Girl are still active, Harris has stepped out in solo mode last year to lean into “the more heartfelt and silly side of the dynamic songwriter”, as heard on his breakthrough, Ramones-referencing single Sheena Is A Bush Doofer and his Radiohead-nodding EP OK Kombucha. 

Back in 2022 with a couple of singles, Harris has been building to his second EP, with the vibe-melding, Oasis-parodying titled Defiantly, Maybe out December 9 but premiering on Pilerats today! Meeting at the intersection of modern pop and indie rock, Defiantly, Maybe sees Harris further his knack for crafting short & sweet catchy songs that cover a range of tempos and styles, with a focus on big, anthemic, sing-a-long inducing choruses across its five track.

Harris explains the origins of his love for the classics of pop and rock saying "In grade one, I moved primary schools and two things happened that changed my life; I saw the ABBA musical and found out my new teacher Wendy was an Elvis impersonator. I was obsessed with both, so I asked my Mums if I could start guitar lessons and that was it."
