Mosh Music: Our fave new punk, rock and hardcore tunes this week

It's generally around this time of the week that we start to hit a wall, when those thoughts about calling in sick for work creep into our heads far more often than they probably should and our caffeine intake rises to dangerous levels. We get it, since Monday you've had one eye on the weekend and you're still only halfway there, another three days remain to painfully navigate and there ain't a damn thing you can do about it except to keep dragging yourself out of bed each morning. Thankfully, we've put together a list of the best new guitar-driven music you can wrap your ears around, from rock 'n' roll and grunge all the way through to hardcore and metal. Hopefully it's enough to help pull your mopey ass through Hump Day and the rest of the week.

Freak Vibe (pictured top) - Take It Easy

A brand new five-piece outta Perth playing super fast, super fun hardcore tunes. Featuring members from local pop-punkers Monuments and now defunct metalcore giants Mandalay Victory; Freak Vibe have been writing together for around six months, and earlier this week released their debut EP, Yeah Buoy. The six-track effort from the boys is one hell of a good time, with a tonne of energy crammed into every track - and no song spans longer than one and a half minutes, so those of you with even the shortest of attention spans can get around them. Get a taste of the freaky vibes on offer with EP opener, Take It Easy. Yeah Buoy is out now through Bad Noose Independent Press and the fellas were even kind enough to chuck it up for free download over at Bandcamp.

Belle Haven - The Carving Knife

Following on from the five-piece's debut album, Everything Ablaze, which dropped early last year; we have a smashing new track from Belle Haven that sees them taking their sound to dizzying new heights. The Carving Knife is a frenetic but airtight tune from these Melbourne lads, with soaring clean vocals and intricate guitar licks giving off a Chiodos meets The Amity Affliction vibe. Belle Haven nail the balance between hectic aggression and melodic, downtempo moments perfectly; creating a sound that's simply begging to be played on big stages to raging crowds. 

Descendents - Feel This

The legends! What a bloody band the Descendents are - still charging like a bunch of hyped 18-year-olds, despite the fact that they're all in their early 50's. The quartet released their seventh studio album, Hypercaffium Spazzinate, back in July, and raucous single Feel This is ample proof that the punks have lost none of their touch over the years. The video for Feel This gives great insight into the Descendents live show, proving drummer Bill Stevenson still rips as hard as anyone in punk music, bassist Karl Alvaraz and guitarist Stephen Egerton shred like a couple of crazies, and frontman Milo Aukerman commands the crowd and stage like a man possessed. If you want to catch the Descendents tearing shit up harder than any punk-dads you'll ever witness; they'll be out in Australia next Feb, playing dates in all major cities.

Bleach Girls - Like You

With summer creeping up on us rapidly, now's the perfect time to be familiarising yourself with one of Australia's raddest new beach-punk bands, Bleach Girls. The duo out of Byron Bay are releasing their debut EP, Hi!, next month - and its lead single, Like You, would have us believe we're in for some serious good times when we get our hands on that one. Heavy fuzz and surf-punk power chords, paired with lo-fi punk vocals and catchy hooks make Like You the perfect 'windows down' tune for your summer arvos spent driving down the coast or drinking in backyards. Bleach Girls will be playing dates in Bali and on the east coast through the end of this year and early 2017, make sure you check them out if they're in your town.
