Frontline is the second single from her upcoming debut album, which will drop in October before she comes down under with The XX..
It pains me to see names like Kelela so slept on in Australia. Despite being one of the US' most hyped R&B artists, the Washington-born artist is yet to make a substantial impact down here, which is practically a crime considering how some of her tracks are (namely her break-out, catchy single Rewind and last month's album-leading single LMK. Her new single Frontline, debuted on HBO's Insecure, is another woozy, sensual album cut from the R&B star, with Kelela's powerful, yet still quite delicate and fragile vocals floating above an airy, shimmering production which kicks with rounds of bass as the single heats up. The contrasting between Kelela's gentle vocals and the brooding, cloudy production is phenomenal, and just another small reason why Frontline is a perfect example of Kelela's brilliant songwriting. Australia, it's time to finally fall in love with Kelela.
Take Me Apart - Kelela's long-awaited debut album - will arrive through Warp (US) and Inertia (AUS) on October 6. Catch her supporting The XX in Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane this January with Earl Sweatshirt - dates below.
