More GL More GL

Saturday the 26th of September was close to the best Saturday I’ve had this year. The reason for this is simple – OutsideIn Festival 2015. Whilst acts like Harvey Sutherland, Charles Murdoch and Andrés literally blew me away – it was a late afternoon set from Melbourne duo GL that sits at the forefront of my mind.

GL are a vocalist/producer partnership made up of Ella Thompson and Graeme Progson. These two haven’t been heard of in quite some time with their debut EP Love Hexagon released back in early February. Well now they’ve returned with Number One, a synthy funk drum episode guaranteed to get your limbs moving. The track possesses a distinctive 80’s dance floor vibe, which immediatley brings to mind long hair, flarred jeans and plenty of colour.

GL again prove they know exactly how to craft upbeat, radio-ready pop music with Ella’s romanticized vocals sailing perfectly over the glittery breakdown. The story Ella sings about focuses on the struggle so many people endure when they’re seen as the next best thing and not their lover’s first choice.

On Saturday I vividly remember being shrouded in pink lights, grooving to this with mates, grinning from ear to ear.
