Also, in a rare DJ set for triple j Mix Up, he teases plenty more to come - including a remix of PNAU's Solid Gold..

Once a mainstay in the Australian electronic scene, the past two years have been relatively quiet for Kilter. Since dropping his debut album, the guest-heavy Through The Distortion, back in 2017, the percussionist/producer/songwriting weapon has only really been a force on the live circuit, spending much of the past two years collaborating with acts like Nicole Millar and working on his long-awaited follow-up, expected for arrival sometime this year. In saying that, however, April welcomed the producer's long-awaited return, teaming up with Byron Bay's Yorke - an artist growing to become somewhat of a Pilerats favourite up-and-comer - for a dizzying return titled Overdrive; a soaring, synth-driven return to glory that really bid the revival of one of Australia's premier electronic musicians.
Now, things are heating up. Last week, he threw it back a little for an exciting, boundary-pushing two-side titled Tmper/One In Hand; two vastly different tracks connected by experimentalism and production growth. The first, Tmper, glitches with thick, swelling synth hits and percussive breakdowns, layering Flume-esque experimentation with his own, signature percussion layers and dizzying synth which twinkles over the top. It's dark and somewhat menacing, powering on through its relatively short, two-minutes-thirty duration with rich melodic patterns and abrasion. One In Hand, on the other hand, represents something a touch on the house-inspired sound, with euphoric, almost-euro-dance-esque synth melodies building to create a quick-paced, high-BPM break-down that really captures the energy of Kilter in a completely different and unexplored way. "These two tracks are a testament to perseverance," he says on the tracks. "Both developing over time and often taking a back seat to other music I have been working on. They are a great bridge between my existing and yet to be released works as they capture a lot of the frenetic energy of my last year."
