The Kite String Tangle and Woodes are two artists that no longer need an introduction in Australia. The former - the musical alias of Brisbane's Danny Harley - has become a pioneering force in Australian electro-pop, with a long-winding career stretching from subtle indie-electronica (Given The Chance) to rushing, club-focused dance music (C()D3X) and everything in between. Woodes, meanwhile, is Melbourne-via-Townsville's Elle Graham, capturing the strength and power in means of pop music that feels just as comparable to subtle beauty of Sigur Ros as it does the grandness of a Game Of Thrones soundtrack.

The two have shared festival line-ups and studio sessions in the past, with The Kite String Tangle even aiding on the production of Woodes' debut album Crystal Ball last year. Tornado Club, however, is a collaborative project that brings them more together than ever before, showing the close-knit connection they've carved through collaboration, and how they're able to translate that into potent and exhilarating dance-pop music that feels like a breath of fresh air, even alongside their respective solo projects.

Something Was Missing is the first taste of the project, and if it's anything to go by, it's going to be a career-elevating next chapter for both of them. It captures the forward-thinking prowess of both The Kite String Tangle and Woodes united together; their exchanging vocals finding a meeting point amongst a hotbed of twisting synth and stripped-back instrumentation, straddling this fine line between subtleness and exploding into this larger, more dominative sound.

It's also a song which feels incredibly natural, which as The Kite String Tangle explains, seems to encapsulate the greater project. "This has been one of the most natural periods of song-writing I’ve ever experienced. It was really cathartic and grounding to be writing music with Elle, without any expectations, during a time of personal volatility. In the end, it has created something really special which we’re both really excited to continue building upon," he says.

It's something Woodes agrees with, as she adds to The Kite String Tangle's comments. "This music was never really created to be released or shared, it was just the two of us using song-writing as a way of working through something," she says. "I’m a massive fan of Danny’s production, writing and the world he creates around his music. Making this duo together has been an important and inspiring new chapter for me. I’m proud of what we’ve created and look forward to sharing where it goes."

It's a captivating and enchanting display from the pair, and a rich vision produced by two musicians often known for their greater, universe-building projects. Tornado Club is another example of which, and Something Was Missing proves this isn't going to fall below the benchmark set by their respective projects.
