"... All music is personal; what a reviewer may hate might actually save someone else's life, so I just try and stay positive."
After a snap decision to study music in Liverpool, it has been nothing but an upward trajectory for singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Dan Croll. Snagging a record deal and releasing an album just three years into a course is the ideal scenario for any budding musician, and Croll is living proof it's achievable. Now, with the release of his second full-length album Emerging Adulthood, Croll has made a few tweaks to his recording process.
"I was quite tired of Liverpool and London," Croll confesses, "and I wanted this album to be a chance for an adventure, so when the opportunity came to record in Atlanta I jumped on it and flew out a month later to start." His new LP also welcomes the addition of producer Ben Allen, who Croll gushes "really pushed me mentally and physically to get the best out of me."
While he may have tackled Emerging Adulthood with a slightly different approach, the instrumentals on his LP remain the same - pure Croll. "I'd been playing rugby since a very young age to quite a high level so I had always been coached to get the best out of myself," he explains. "So I guess setting the challenge of playing all of the instruments was a way of challenging me against me."
Throughout his short yet illustrious music career, Croll has undoubtedly received his fair share of critique and praise. When pressed about whether he chooses to keep track of his critiques, Croll offers "I always try and stay away from reviews, it can play havoc with your mind, but I always end up running into one or two online.

"I get all kinds of reviews, and when there's a bad one I just have to remind myself that I'm never going to please everyone, and that all music is personal; what a reviewer may hate might actually save someone else's life, so I just try and stay positive."
Despite maintaining an upbeat attitude, Croll admits that he faced "a few personal hurdles" after the release of his debut album, which is what inspired Emerging Adulthood. "The overall theme is just trying to find your place in life... [I] had a reflective period of wondering whether I had it in me to do another album and continue in the music industry as a solo artist. Each of the songs is a part of that journey."
Croll also teased the next single taken from Emerging Adulthood, describing it as "harder hitting".
"It's a pretty immediate song compared to a couple of the others. We're currently in the process of making the video for that now, and the style of video is very new to me, so I'm excited to reveal all very soon!"
