Redd Kross is an American rock band from Hawthorne, California, who had their roots in 1978 in a punk rock band called the Tourists, which was started by brothers Jeff and Steve McDonald while Steve was still in middle school. With the addition of friends Greg Hetson and John Stielow on drums, the band's first gig was opening for Black Flag. The band has since released seven albums and three EPs.

As Redd Kross enter a new era in their 45th year, they say: "Our third act is going to be badass."
"Those bands straightened up the sludge, and constantly shifting time signatures and arrangements, leaving Melvins as true progenitors of their sound."
"The blind intensity of some of the collisions raised expectations that blood would flow at any moment."
“It’s kind of weird – we recorded that record by paying for it ourselves and producing it ourselves, with no record label or anything.”
“But with this record, it’s very strange... because we started recording it on half-inch eight-track, and then it kind of mutated into going in the studio with the Neve board, then going into our own basements with our Pro Tools – we just did every imaginable technique.”
Researching The Blues is far more than a token reunion album, rather a welcome return from of this fine underground outfit, and should also be held up as a beacon of light for experienced musicians everywhere, an apt reminder that that where there’s life there’s hope.
Redd Kross main men Jeff and Steve McDonald were still teenagers when they released their debut album Born Innocent. Thirty years later the kind of loud, fuzzy rock that thrilled the young Californian teenagers finally seems to be seeping back into the Sydney live scene and both this gig’s supports did a pretty good job of it.
It’s been a while since US rockers Redd Kross graced us with their eccentric presence, but bassist Steve McDonald assures Steve Bell that time hasn’t straightened them.
