Taking advantage of a great feeling in the room all night, the set was in equal measures beautiful and ugly, highlighting the evolution of one of Perth’s treasures.
Proving their prestige, Karnivool packed out their spin in the Concert Hall, and somehow made a room of that scope seem surprisingly intimate.
The band deservedly headlined a fine night of passionately loud rock’n’roll, which displayed enough variety amongst the substantially shared approach of the bands.
As they so often do, consummate professionals I, Said The Sparrow took to the stage and immediately showed up their predecessors.
The band really shined with their softer, more refined moments, and the best god-damn control of dynamic this scribe has witnessed.
More than just a musical performance, the atypical format did take the crowd a little while to come to terms with, but as the show progressed so too did the audience involvement.
Playing all their big tracks, and even a promising newie, the anthemic insights into life as a twenty-something in suburban Australia yet again forced those in attendance to re-evaluate the way they see the world.
All in all, a grand set.
As if any more was needed, the Red Hot Chili Peppers closed the main stage in sensational style.
