Live Review: Urthboy, L-FRESH The Lion, Okenyo

Okenyo kicked off the night with a warm, soulful performance. The sound of smooth synths in alignment with velvet-like vocals set an intimate mood for the night. Okenyo's confident stage presence reflected her proficiency as a live performing artist.

Following on from Okenyo, came South-Western Sydney hip hop artist L-FRESH The LION. Emanating animated energy, L-FRESH prepared and excited the crowd for Urthboy's upcoming appearance. L-FRESH communicated well with the crowd, jostling and participating in some artist-to-fan banter, which in turn set a light-hearted vibe. Accompanied by hip hop MC Mirrah, the pair put on such a vibrant, energetic act.  

Finally, Urthboy made the much-anticipated appearance on the small stage of Rocket. Dim lights and an intimate crowd made for a very special performance. Urthboy belted out hop favourites such as Naive Bravado, Stories and Hellsong. The crowd, which clearly were familiar with Urthboy's tracks, sung along.  

Urthboy then announced that he was playing tracks off his latest album and although the crowd wasn't as familiar with these tracks, they continued to dance along energetically and enthusiastically. Urthboy then played Daughter Of The Light, which he admitted was written about his mum. This created an artist-to-audience rapport, which further added to the intimacy of the performance.

As the night progressed so did the level of energy put into the performance. Definitely looking forward to the next time Urthboy visits Adelaide!!
